The company, belonging to the French group Sphere, takes another step in its production, expanding its business with new products such as aluminum rolls, food stretch film and baking paper, which will be manufactured within the new production lines that will be launch in the first four months of 2022.
These new production lines will involve an investment of two million euros, which will be used mainly for the latest technology machinery to carry out this production, which will constitute the company’s new line of household items, which will be distributed in the markets of Spain and Portugal.
These products are part of the commitment to sustainability that the company has maintained for more than 45 years and that has also been reflected in other of its products such as biodegradable and compostable bags.
In order to delve into this sustainability, both food film, aluminum and baking paper have been the target of research and manufacturing processes carried out at various Sphere Group headquarters, such as COMSAT in Italy or Sphere itself in France. .
These innovations are transferred with these production lines to Sphere Spain, although the company has also shown its interest in joining the ecodesign and technical advances that integrate the principles of circular economy throughout the process, including ranges of products such as aluminum trays and the freezer bags that are also manufactured by the French group.
The new production lines will also allow Sphere to reinforce its investment commitment, since the company is immersed in the start-up of its new facilities, which make up the Pedrola Circular Economy Complex, in Zaragoza, in which it will carry out a investment of 32 million euros.
A plant in which the company will continue with its three strategic lines, which include biodegradable and compostable plastics, plastics with high percentages of recycled material and plastics of plant origin.
In addition, it will allow the company to achieve the objectives of its strategic plan, which includes the replacement of materials that come from petrochemical plants with renewable materials and recycled materials in the entire production process by the end of 2025.
The new facilities in Pedrola, to which the company will move from its current headquarters in Utebo (Zaragoza), will have an area of 32,000 square meters dedicated to the manufacture of compostable bags with high content of post-consumer recycled material.
The start-up of this complex will allow the company to increase existing production, in addition to generating more direct and indirect jobs that will be incorporated into its current workforce of 215 employees.
From the Zaragoza plant in Utebo, Sphere Spain designs, manufactures and markets garbage bags, reusable box outlet bags with 80% recycled material, domestic and industrial aluminum foil, freezer bags, industrial and food films and plastic bags. paper for the large distribution, professional, hospitality and municipal markets. Spain accounts for 15% of the total production of the Sphere Group.
The Sphere Group, which was founded in France in 1976, has 15 production plants in Europe of which eight are located in France and has more than 1,400 employees. Its turnover in 2020 amounted to around 730 million euros.
